I might get in trouble for this......

(Usually bosses don't like you telling it how it is - but hey, I've got the password to upload - so there's no rose coloured glasses here baby!) ..................

Ok, almost a week down, and JACK is still on the air & adding more music by the day.. (trust me, there's been quite a few teething problems - so being on the air really is no mean feat :).... But hey,  I'm not sure if there has actually been any other radio stations in the country who have launched a brand new station whilst keeping another on the air, so we live and learn!.. I think we are the only one (feel free to tell me I'm wrong)...

On the technical side been a very trying week.. (and bless the engineering guys who we have met walking out as we have walked in at stupid o'clock).. But having a reality check - we aren't saving lives... we are only a radio station.. soon everything will be sorted..

To the guy who says the brekky show has a long way to go; first off thanks for actually listening, I thought we'd only have 3 listeners... but alas the emails, texts and streaming numbers indicate there are way more (damnit -we will have to actually do some work!).... Trust us - we know it takes a hell of a lot to change people's breakfast habits... We ARE brand new.. We ARE welcome to suggestions.. as well as presenting, I produce the show, so I am most welcome to any emails at sue.carter@jackfm.co.uk...

All I say is give it a bit of time to settle in... Technical things need to iron themselves out.. The day the phones, the microphones, the playout system and even the aircon all work at the same time - will be a VERY BIG DAY...  Anyways, the brekky show is all about not taking life too seriously - but still tackling more than just generic tabloid issues.. We want to talk about anything anyone who is an adult may have an interest in and again, welcome any suggestions...

Hope you all are enjoying the music.. the feedback has been brilliant so far.... honestly,  I've been in radio (oh god, now I reveal how old I am).... 18 years, and I have never (till now) worked in a radio station where you constantly hear the words "oh my god... I love this song.. I haven't heard this in ages"!!....

And what's more, it's also amazing to hear we had the biggest attendance at a launch party in years for Oxford.... The amount of JACKtivities requests rolling in is far beyond anything I've seen at radio stations 4 times the size... and the stories we hear from people at workplaces who have turned us on is pretty damn good for week one!............. Here's waiting week two!

The official button has finally been pressed!

Ok.. just a quick blog.. cos it's been a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng day!

We've pressed the button (thankgod it worked)... Spent far too much money on champers and wine at the Lemon Tree for about 150 of our closest friends who turned up to celebrate the launch..

The sawdust has been hoovered up... and some of the cables have even been put away...

The building and wiring continues... but the dumpy lil building on Woodstock Rd now has 2 radio stations coming from it...

Thanks for all your messages of support..

Right.. nite then.. it's far too late to be awake on a school night.

At the risk of adding to that good old stereotype that “women never shut up”.. Looks like it’s me again in charge of updating the blog…So what to tell you?

The building is in tip top shape… there’s not one single cable or piece of wiring lying around…. I also most definitely did not see cable cutters or various tools sprawled all over desks in the studio area just a few hours ago….(She says with her mind filled with images of doing a show later this week with engineers wrapped around her feet “just tweaking one last thing”)…….

Staying with things that didn’t happen, isn’t happening, or we will most certainly deny the existence of….

Darren and I didn’t nearly kill ourselves tonight rifling through all the boxes shoved up high (supposedly away from people like us).. Looking for JACKfm mugs to nick… by the way, if you know one of the fellers who knocked on the door and were given a couple of them on the weekend – well done!.. The boss is treating them like they are almost as important as his red wine collection… Later this week the giving out of free stuff will officially begin by the way!

A quick music update – I was sitting across from the music guys today while they went through what I call YAY or NAY for songs in the library, and between you and me, I was inwardly cheering as they ditched some of the dreary ballady stuff that’s in there…

Internet update – I’ve seen the new website, there’s something really cool and new on it… It’s not far from launch.. but is still being tweaked at the moment… but I did overhear that the streaming of JACK should be up and happening early this week, even on current page..

Anyways.. that’s enough of me for now…

If I can work out how to do it (because the boss has given me his login and password to put all this up myself for the first time).. I’ll throw up some pics of our new minis in an album on the side next..

JACK fm Mornings

Hi There!  (God, how cheesy did that sound!)…. Right, well, my name is Sue, and according to the official press release that went out yesterday, I am part of the “multi-award winning” JACK breakfast team soon to be dragging themselves out of bed at an ungodly hour!....

(How I laughed when I read that multi award winning thing, it made me think; if only you knew the gold one is sitting on the floor with a chip missing from it where I accidentally jammed “radio’s most coveted trophy” in my boot … Oh well.. if I tilt it an angle in a dark corner, no-one will notice)…

So Tuesday was a big day for us all at JACK.. How’s this for embarrassing admission number one…. When we were told someone had flipped the transmitter switch to ON,

we actually tuned the office radio in, and listened to the test broadcast tone all afternoon..

I guess the only thing sadder than that would be if someone hypothetically went down to their car, and took a photo of where it says JACK FM on their radio when you tune to 106.8….By the way, on the off chance you had nothing better to do – I’ve put that picture in the gallery on the left…

Um.. what other magical insights can I give you into what’s going on at the moment?

You may have heard about us gate crashing the Fox birthday party at Blenheim the other night…..  by the way, apologies to the security guard who kept trying to move our incredibly official looking marshals on….  Basically we flagged down all the guests going into Blenheim and gave them a gold envelope with a birthday card from Jack in it… Fox weren’t all that impressed… But we had a good laugh.. It’s only radio  - it’s supposed to be fun!

Right that’s enough of me for now – back to loading and collating music… THERE’S SO GODDAM MANY SONGS IT’S TAKING AAAAAAAAAAGES!

X Sue
