Well, we are officially rubbish at updating the blog...
We're talking about getting rid of the blog section, because that ole gem Facebook came along.. Then came Twitter... Which we have just taken to like the cliched fish to water.. See the thing is, in order to be able to keep a blog updated.. you need time.. and alas all of us at Jack are too damn stupid to have anything resembling normal lives, so when we aren't at work.. we are either sleeping, or shovelling food and drink down to keep us going a little longer...
Then came along Twitter... it's so damn instananeous.. and the anoraks at Jack who have iphones jump in and out of it all day long.. so this blog really is to say check out www.twitter.com and look for 106jackfm you can catch up with most of us on there.. ask any questions.. give us the weather.. any news.. complain.. moan.. do whatever.. it's a damn site more interesting and up to date than reading a bunch of words typed out months ago ;0
‘’Week 1 at Jack, a blur of new faces, names that I will desperately try to remember and appointments with my new colleagues. Trying to answer the phone with Jack FM, not my previous company that appears to be tattooed on my brain!!
Worried that I may not have made the best impression when asked if I would like to walk on hot coals, promptly informed that it was for an excellent cause, Muscular Dystrophy, for which the team raised over £500.00.
All in all this group of mad people in this dingy building appear to be incredibly passionate, and may I add very good at what they do. I am very excited about working with these nutters, work hard, laugh hard, play hard!!!!
This week has been slightly better....flight wise. The traffic has been a nightmare.
The roadworks in Headington were the big issue during the New Year period, and while sometimes they DO still cause a problem, of late they have not been too bad.
The M40 closure earlier in the week caused a frustration for London bound drivers. It has been quite some time since I had to commute to work by car (my cycle ride to the airport every day tends to take me 10 minutes) but I remember clearly being held in a queue on the M40 up that hill to Stokenchurch when I was a young lad working at a tiny radio station in High Wycombe. And that was when it was just rush hour. So I know how infuriating it must be to be stuck there having timed it terribly. It is always worth listening to Jack fm every 15 minutes from 6am even before you leave for work, because if there IS a problem on the M40, you will hear it with us at Jack fm first.
Actually the M40 was a bit like a naughty child this week – it caused the same problems in exactly the same place two days in a row...and Junction 10 'thkweamed' out “ what about me....and promptly collapsed into a crying pile of traffic based puss.
This was Abingdon on Wednesday night....
As you will know its been VERY cold the last few months. For Christmas, I bought the Flying Jack a new jumper....here it is wearing it. Pilot Andy was not pleased...he has the job of taking it off every time we fly!
This is what it looks like when there is a broken down vehicle at Botley. Queues stretching past Abingdon North...insanity.
Hey, it's Sue, got sent one of those emails we all used to get years ago and love....
nowdays you probably delete them..
Anyway, thought I'd fill out my annual Questionaire email..
Here it is .. Thanks to "Best friend from about when we were 5", Jen for this.
Welcome to the new edition of getting to know your family and friends. Here is what you are supposed to do, and try not to be lame and spoil the fun. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Then send this to a bunch of people you know, INCLUDING the person who
sent it to you. Some of you may get this several times; that means you have lots of friends.*(No really? Sue) The easiest way to do it is to hit 'forward' so you can change the answers or copy and paste.*( thanks for that)

Happy New Year. It's been a while since I imposed on your otherwise happy existence with my random musings, so I thought what better time to update you on the behind the scenes world of the 'Flying Jack' than in the first month of what is already shaping up to be an exciting year for us.
It's darker now. Both in the morning and the afternoon. Hence the lack of pictures in this blog entry. When we do during the 'Morning Glory', it tends to be around 7am, and that's pre-sunrise at the moment.
The weather in the winter months has been keeping us on the ground a bit lately, which can be frustrating. It means I often cannot “say what I see” in the words of Roy Walker. Instead I have to rely on check calls and traffic cameras AND YOUR CALLS AND TEXTS ARE A HUGE HELP!
I have to say, if you are stuck in a queue, please DO call our jamline. In fact, stop reading this for the moment, grab your mobile or other hand held telephonic device and input this number right now... 0871 52 11106If it goes to message, leave a message – it gets emailed to about a thousand people at Jack !
That will put you straight through to our studios here at Jack fm, and make sure that you do a good deed for the day and help your motoring peers avoid delays getting in to their wage slave cubicles, and earning themselves an honest minimum wage.
Be like Madonna. Spread the love.
Next week, I will hopefully have a picture or two to share with you.
We sent a little mail around the office with a request to complete that sentence..
Here's what came back..
Joe: For me, 2008 was the year I will remember for… winning silver at the Radio Academy wards and being summarised by the judges as ‘bravely simple’
and 2008 .. the year that… I realised turning 21 does actually turn you in to an adult.
Greg: For me 2008 was the year that I will remember because I met Gordon Brown, David Cameron, the Dalai Lama and His Holiness Boris Johnson. Oh, and the same year that I crapped my pants as I touched down in Afghanistan.

Robbie:thought i might throw a couple in, here goes
2008, was the year i will remember for keith and I scooping an interview and meeting Mark Ronson and Lily Allen at Gatecrasher. .. 2008, the year that keith t put on a skirt, carried a wand and became a fairy! - (nothing new there!)
Sophie B:For me, 2008 was the year I will remember for..
Losing someone special to us..
My little sis getting engaged
It being hot AND snowy in October
and... 2008 .. the year that…..
Being President of the US seemed cool again.
I DIDN'T lose my job!
Our credit crunched.
Buying my first house actually started to look possible.
I learned how to be a manager

Pete: For me, 2008 was the year I will remember for.. me buying my first property – Why why – I must be a fool! In debt for the rest of my life now! L
2008 .. the year that….. I got married!
Sue: 2008 was the year I discovered Shakespeare is brilliant (ok, and so is seeing David Tennant 3 times in Stratford)..
The year my mum came to the UK for the first time (I've been here 10 years)
Oh, and the year my mum got a computer AND the internet - she's the MSN queen!
2008 the year that I had my 20th school reunion - what insanity, flying home for a week, but great fun!
oh and also the year Trevor Marshall sideswiped me onair with the whole " I have just realised who you were out with on Saturday night till 5:30am, I.T guy saga thing". You are a b%stard Trev!
It started at the brand new Cafe Coco in the Royal Hotel near the train station in Oxford. (just making the location clear invade you want to check it out, because it was brilliant!) Newly renovated, and beautiful food..
Only complaint was the funny dips in the middle of the table.. Couldn't tell you how many glasses of wine we spilt that night! Although that may be something to do with us!
Anyway... After a fun night, we headed off to The Regal on Cowley Road.. Keith out Jack Roadie does the 'set' from midnight till 2.. And had sorted us VIP entry..
Oh my god! The place was rammed, and how young did everyone seem? I was waiting for someone to ask us if we were there to collect a child!
But to be fair the whole VIP thing had it's benefits, a raised section overlooking the dancefloor, where you sat on comfy sofas... That's half the ingredients for my ideal night.. Sofas and being able to hear yourself speak.. Alas no chance of the second!
I had to laugh.. Lining up in the loos I felt I had stumbled into a school changeroom... All so young.. Discussing who they might 'get off with' ( such a lovely phrase that) .. And me, finding myself thinking 'won't you be cold in those shorts that truly define the word short'?
I'd like to say I came to my common senses then and there...
But of course not! Somehow I ended up being the last Jack person out, with a couple of other friends.
I duly ended up home at 330am, woke up at 930, felt like I needed a metric bucket of water to cure the dehydration... But fortunately could remember the entire evening. Phew!
Until someone asked me about a text I didn't realise I sent.
Someone really should put a lock on mobile phones that you can set before going out partying with
